With Online Marketing…Content is King

When people hear the term online marketing, they typically think of tools such as web sites, email distribution systems or social networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

These are certainly important elements of online marketing. But the key to online success is…….amazing content.

With online marketing, Content is King. Content is what distinguishes you from competitors, creates the perception you are an authority, and increases your visibility.

It must be compelling, authoritative, interesting, educational, amusing; whatever captures the attention and imagination of your target audience.

If your content is the opposite of these attributes, old, stale, predictable, boring, full of platitudes, etc, prospects will not spend their valuable time consuming it. And they certainly won’t forward it to friends and colleagues.

Search engines also love fresh, compelling content. They will rank those sites with updated, relevant content higher than those that have static, dated content that does not provide searchers with the information they are online to find.

Content can be delivered in different formats. It can be text, video, images or audio. Formats other than text can be very powerful depending on the business you are in. The ease of creating and posting video, images and audio have made them more accessible, and as a result, prospects have become accustomed to these mediums. So don’t limit yourself to just text.

Content development must be ongoing if you want to get noticed by communities of interest and search engines. So when developing an online marketing strategy, the first key decision is who will have responsibility for content; who will update web pages, write blogs and newsletters, post comments, Tweet, create videos and podcasts, maintain a presence on social sites…..

With online marketing, Content is King. If you want to grow your business through online marketing, you must commit to making content development part of your day to day activities.
