You know the hashtag. It’s the # sign before phrases or words, usually on social media (although sometimes you’ll see it on a T-shirt or a blog title…like this one!).
Their purpose on social media is to categorize content and connect people who are talking about the same things. You can use them to connect with your audience, customers, influencers in your industry, or anyone of interest. You can also use them to establish a social media brand for your business.
Hashtags can be used on most of the popular social media networks, including:
- Twitter (where the hashtag was born)
- Google+
